GENESIS OF THE WIND FARM

Due to steady wind conditions, the eastern alpine foothills are a perfect location for wind farms. The proximity to the transformation station in Mitterdorf and the easily accessible location on Hochpürschtling were additional favorable factors.

Hellfried Hainzl, founder of Windheimat GmbH recognized this potential in 2008 and started to seek partners for his vision of a wind farm on Hochpürschtling.

PLANNING STAGE

2009 / 2010:Commission of the first assessments on profitability and environmental compatibility.
The organization Energiewerkstatt measured wind speed and wind direction over the course of one year at a height of 60m to guarantee the profitability of the project.

Additionally, numerous environmental assessments are commissioned. They concern for example

  • Nature protection (vegetation, terrestrial fauna, birds and bats)
  • Noise emission
  • Shadow effect
  • Ice throw risk
  • Visual impact

2011 : The regional planning procedure is initiated and the environmental assessments get filed for evaluation. On December 15 local authorities give their approval to the changes in the land use plan.

CONSTRUCTION STAGE

2012 : Construction start of the structural and electrical infrastructure, which includes 4.7 km of roads and 4.4 km of cable routes in the wind farm area.
In addition to crane storage areas, storage and assembly areas, the concrete foundations of the 9 wind turbines are built. Their diameters are about 16m.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE WIND TURBINES

2013 : Specialized vehicles transport all components of the wind turbines to the site where they are assembled with the help of a giant crane.

After completion of the construction, the surrounding areas are re-grounded and landscaped. The areas that were covered by woods are reforested.

On 26 October, the official opening of the wind farm takes place.
